Trump endorses Rep.-elect Luke Letlow’s widow for House seat

Former President Trump has endorsed Julia Letlow in her race to fill the House seat almost filled by her late husband.

In a statement released late Wednesday, the 45th commander-in-chief praised the widow of Rep.-elect Luke Letlow (R-La.) as “a wonderful and talented person” who ran for her late husband’s seat “at the urging of so many.”

Trump touted Letlow for her pro-life stance, as well as her being “strong on Crime, the Border, loves our Military, our Vets, and will always protect our cherished Second Amendment.”

“Julia, who is so outstanding, has my Complete and Total Endorsement. The Great State of Louisiana will be thrilled!”

Letlow died from COVID-19 complications in late December, just days after being admitted to the ICU.

He underwent two procedures to treat a blood clot that he developed while he battled the bug.

His second operation appeared to be successful, but Letlow suffered what turned out to be a fatal heart attack later that day.

The 41-year-old married father of two from rural Start, La., won the Pelican State’s 5th District seat in a Dec. 5 runoff race and was set to take office at the start of the new year.

After he died, Letlow’s widow Julia announced her intention to fill the seat her husband couldn’t.

In her campaign announcement in January, Letlow said she was “running to continue the mission Luke started — to stand up for our Christian values, to fight for our rural agricultural communities, and to deliver real results to move our state forward.”

“Luke and I have been best friends and a team for eight years, and we always believed that you have to work hard for your dreams and often that requires stepping out and taking a leap of faith,” she wrote.

Since leaving office, Trump has remained active politically through his endorsements of Republicans in state and local races.

Last month, he said he would back politically-aligned Republicans in primaries where “necessary and appropriate.”
